Chelsea’s Moses: FA Cup final red card was worst moment of my career

Victor Moses is dreaming of scoring the winner in Saturday’s FA Cup final which he hopes will redeem him in the eyes of his team mates after getting sent off in last season’s final defeat to Arsenal.

Moses, 27, is hoping for a return to form after suffering an inglorious 3-0 defeat away to Newcastle in Sunday’s league curtain-closer which saw the dethroned champions finish in fifth place.

The Nigeria wing-back said: “We lost last year, but apart from that, we just want to get it right this time.

“We know we have Man United in the final, but it won’t be easy. If we can win it, it will be a great bonus, but we just want to finish strong. “The sending off at Wembley was definitely the worst feeling ever that I’ve experienced in my career, and in an FA Cup final as well.

“I wanted to be on the pitch to help my team mates.

“But that’s gone now, we have another final on Saturday against Manchester United to look forward to and we want to win it.

“It’s played on my mind a little bit, but apart from that, it’s happened, there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t rewind it back, to try and not get a red card, it is what it is, it’s football.”

Moses was sent off in the 68th minute in the 2-1 defeat to the north Londoners and Moses believes the team are ready to put that right against Jose Mourinho’s United.

“The most important thing is that we just have to motivate ourselves to win it,” he said.

“Every one of us wants to stay disciplined and focused and do what the manager asks of us on the pitch and make sure that we win.

“We are looking forward to it. It’s always a tough game when you go and play Man United, they have quality players, so have we. The most important thing is that we concentrate, and make sure we win it. We know it will be a hard game, but the best team is going to win it at the end of the day. So we need to stay focused and try to win.

“It would be a dream to score the winning goal. But the most important thing is that it’s all about the team. The team effort. We need to work hard, stick together and hopefully if we can do that, we can overcome anyone. No one can afford to take their foot off the gas.

“There is competition everywhere, good players everywhere, so whenever you start, you have got to enjoy it.”
