Colchester United loan move for Charlton Athletic defender

Charlton Athletic defender Zach Mitchell has joined Colchester United on loan.

The 18-year-old centre-back, the younger brother of Millwall midfielder Billy, has made one appearance this season – playing the full 90 minutes in their EFL Cup defeat at Newport County.

Mitchell has featured 11 times at first-team level for the Addicks, who he joined at under-seven level.

Some of his game time in the 2022-23 campaign came under then boss Ben Garner, who is now in charge at Colchester.

Mitchell is set to be available for United’s League Two match at Walsall tomorrow.

Garner has already raided his former club in this transfer window, taking full-back Mandela Egbo on a permanent deal.
