Crystal Palace and England handed fitness boost as defender close to injury return

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner hopes Marc Guehi will be back for the Manchester United clash.

The 23-year-old has been missing since the start of February after suffering a hyper-extended knee injury in the 4-1 defeat at Brighton – Roy Hodgson’s final away game in charge.

Guehi was forced to have minor surgey on his knee injury, which has sidlined him throughout the start of Glasner’s tenure at Selhurst Park.

Ex-Chelsea defender Guehi will be hoping to make a playing return before the end of the season to secure his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

Chris Richards, Nathaniel Clyne and Joachim Andersen have been playing as a back three in the last two outings.

The Eagles host Manchester United on May 6.

“He did parts of the sessions this week,” said Glasner.

“Those sessions are 35 minutes. When you play Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, it’s always recovery sessions and for the other players it’s close to the next game so very short sessions.

“But he did it, so we expect him back with the team next week, and then let’s see how he feels. He could be in the squad against Man United.

“We want him to play minutes this season, but we never risk anything.”
