Crystal Palace boss ‘optimistic’ key attacker will extend contract

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is optimistic that Eberechi Eze will extend his contract with the club.

Eze, 25, is on the same deal that he signed when he joined from QPR in 2020.

The Greenwich-born attacker has featured 102 times for the South Londoners, scoring 20 goals and racking up 13 assists.

Eze has also become an England international during his time with the club.

Sam Johnstone and Jordan Ayew both signed new deals at Selhurst Park this week.

Michael Olise, who has returned to some form of first-team training, also signed a new deal with the club in the summer to fend off interest from Chelsea.

“We had the good news with Michael Olise earlier in the year, and now those two (Jordan Ayew and Sam Johnstone),” said Hodgson.

“I believe the club are working very hard with Eberechi Eze and they are very confident it won’t be too long before they can announce him as well.

“These matters are taken care of by Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman, they keep me informed.

“But certainly, they are optimistic it won’t take too long to get Eze to commit his future as well.”
