Crystal Palace striker makes AFC Wimbledon switch

Crystal Palace striker John-Kymani Gordon has joined AFC Wimbledon on loan for the rest of the season.

Gordon, 20, spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Cambridge United, making 18 appearances but failing to net for the U’s.

Mark Bonner signed Gordon from the Eagles but was sacked towards the end of November and was replaced by former Millwall boss Neil Harris.

The forward returned to Selhurst Park at the start of the January window and was immediately shipped out to join the Dons.

Croydon-born Gordon signed a contract extension with Palace before heading out on loan to Carlisle in the second half of the 2022-23 season, featuring 17 times and scoring two goals as they secured promotion to League One via the play-offs.

“I know how big this club is having played against Wimbledon last season,” Gordon said. “I’m very excited to fit into an attack-minded team,

“I feel like I’ll fit in perfectly and score some goals here. The team’s done really well up to this point and my job now is to come in and help them.

“I’m a hardworking, aggressive and passionate player. I just want to win and push the team as high in the league table as possible.”

Johnnie Jackson said: “John-Kymani is a really exciting young player that Crystal Palace have really high hopes for.

“He has huge potential to one day play for them – it’s a great opportunity for him and us. He can play wide and he can play up front, he gives us options in attack.

“He’s had success at the level already having been promoted with Carlisle last season, he fits the bill for the sort of player we’re looking for. He’ll be a real asset for us between now and the end of the season.”
