Crystal Palace suffer fresh injury scares ahead of Brighton derby

Crystal Palace look set to have added injury woes for Monday’s derby against Brighton – with Roy Hodgson revealing that a couple of fresh issues have cropped up this week.

The Eagles look unlikely to have talisman Wilfried Zaha available for the trip to the South Coast.

And Hodgson did not sound optimistic when asked if their selection options would be boosted as they look to bounce back from disappointing losses to Leeds and Burnley.

“No, not really. James McCarthy trained today, which is very positive. But a couple of other players have picked up slight knocks which we’ll have to keep an eye on. We don’t know quite how they will recover.

“It certainly won’t be a vast difference from the last couple of games. If we’re really unlucky it could even be slightly worse.”

Zaha has been absent for the last two matches.

“He’s still suffering the injury, there is no question of that,” said Hodgson. “The doctors and physios here are very anxious not to put dates on people. They would be very angry for me to provide dates of when they could return. He’s working very hard to get back as soon as he can – he has got good powers of recovery.

‘I’m rather hoping that the prognostic will be different to the actual timescale.”
