Erith motorcycle racing star Casey O’Gorman announced his entrance to the British Supersport Championship with a bang claiming a podium in his maiden outing last weekend.

The recently turned 16 year old stunned everyone with his first qualifying session in the British Supersport class at Donington Park by placing his OMG Racing Yamaha R6 at the head of the second row in fourth place for the 18 lap feature race on the Saturday.

After initially dropping back to tenth on the first lap, the rookie supersport rider fought back to pass seasoned rider Eugene McManus on the final corner of the final lap to claim a maiden podium in third place.

With Sunday’s twelve lap sprint race grid positions based on Saturday’s lap times, O’Gormam lined up in seventh spot at the sharp end of the third row.

Starting in wet conditions, O’Gorman quickly moved up to fourth place just behind McManus with 2023 champion Ben Currie leading on his Ducati.

Five laps down and O’Gorman lost a place as everyone began to find the feel for the conditions and dropped further down to sixth a lap later.

Despite the conditions, O’Gorman hadn’t given up and advanced back into fifth with four laps to go, moving into the 1:41 second laps for the first time, still in with a shout for the podium.

Last lap and O’Gorman was all over the back of McManus in fourth but try as he might couldn’t find a way through and crossed the line behind the Triumph mounted rider to claim a very credible fifth place 0.266s further back.

The championship moves onto the final round on the Brands Hatch GP circuit on the 13-15 October with O’Gorman out this weekend for the penultimate round of the European Talent Cup at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
