Dons boss explains defender’s injury absence from Cheltenham defeat

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson is hoping to have defender Ryan Johnson return from a shoulder injury for Saturday’s League Two trip to Carlisle.

Centre-back Johnson, who has made 31 League Two appearances this season and has been an ever-present since joining from Stockport in the summer of 2023, missed the 2-0 home win against Notts County on Saturday through injury.

He was also absent from the matchday squad for the 2-1 defeat at home to Cheltenham on Tuesday night.

Sam Hutchinson, Isaac Ogundere and Joe Lewis formed the back three in front of Crystal Palace loanee Owen Goodman.

“He damaged his shoulder on Tuesday against Morecambe,” said Jackson.

“He was really sore after that.

“Saturday against Notts County was definitely a no.

“He did some light stuff yesterday but I just felt that it would have been too soon to use him tonight.

“Hopefully he gets some more days training, then he might be available for Saturday.”
