‘Dream scenario’ – Millwall boss outlines transfer hopes before Spain pre-season trip

Millwall boss Neil Harris has admitted it would be a dream scenario to land two more signings before heading off to Spain for a week-long pre-season warm weather training camp.

The Lions made three permanent signings last week, with Macaulay Langstaff, Japhet Tanganga and Lukas Jensen all joining.

Harris’ side will face Nottingham Forest and Real Murcia at the Pinatar Arena during their week away.

Speaking before Saturday’s goalless draw with League Two side Gillingham, Harris said: “I spoke earlier in the week [last week], about bringing in six or seven players.

“We’re three in and that’s really important.

“Hopefully at least one more would be lovely, if not two more to follow before going to Spain.

“Obviously I’m putting the recruitment guys under a bit of pressure there, but further adding to the group next week would be a dream scenario for me.

“To be able to take a really strong first-team group to Spain for two really tough fixtures while we’re there, then I would be so pleased that we were in a strong position.

“But to add to the spine of the team is vitally important.

“To bring Japhet back into that defensive unit that did so well at the end of last season.

“To bring Macaulay in, which adds excitement and something different to that front line.

“I know everyone is really excited to see how he develops and his progress goes.

“And then the goalkeeper for completely different reasons with losing Matija [Sarkic]. It’s not a position I thought we would be searching for this summer.

“It’s been a hard process, I have to be honest, at times. It brings up so many memories. However, we had to try to act quickly.

“Lukas coming in with huge pedigree, great potential and a really solid season last year – he’s a really exciting proposition for us.

“It’s really important that I place on record my thanks to Jimmy for the support in bringing the guys in and continued support in adding to the group further.

“It’s important for us that we want to try and improve in last year, then we keep improving the squad in each transfer window.

“I would like to praise my owner for that.”
