Dulwich boss demands his players ‘finish off job’ at Hungerford

Hakan Hayrettin says he is keeping Dulwich Hamlet firmly grounded despite picking up a huge three points against Taunton Town in their battle to beat the drop from National League South.

The South Londoners moved six points clear of the bottom four on Saturday thanks to goals from George Porter and Sanchez Ming.

Hamlet are unbeaten in their last three outings, beating relegation rivals Cheshunt and picking up a point at mid-table Hemel Hempstead over the Easter period.

“We got the job done,” Hayrettin told Hamlet’s YouTube channel following their 2-0 win over Taunton Town. “We scored early and utilised our strengths. Fair play to the boys – once again, we have made this place a fortress.

“Since I have been here, we haven’t lost at home. It was a good win to move us in the right direction, but nothing is over until it’s over. I was brought here to do a job.

“Until the job is done, we keep our feet firmly on the ground and focus on every game one game at a time.

“You need people to deal with certain situations and we dealt with it on Saturday. We also dealt with it over Easter, getting some great points. If anyone would have said we were getting four points from our last six, I would have said ‘I’ll take it now’.

“Here is where it matters. We have to go to Hungerford now and finish the job off. It’s never an easy place to go.

“Until the job is done, I’m going to make sure that everybody connected with the football club keeps their feet firmly on the ground.

“We got the points, and I’m overly proud and pleased that the boys put in an amazing shift for the football club.

“They will continue to do that. The job of me and my staff is to retain our status – that’s what we’re going to be focused on doing. I’m not going to let anyone take it easy.”

Michael Cheek scored a 75th-minute equaliser as Bromley drew 1-1 at FC Halifax Town on Tuesday.

The result means the Ravens are seventh in the National League – the final position that secures a play-off berth.

Striker Cheek took his goal tally to 15 for the campaign.

There are only two matches remaining for Andy Woodman’s side, starting with a home one against third-placed Chesterfield on Saturday.

Bromley finish their season at mid-table Oldham Athletic on April 29.
