Dulwich Hamlet appoint ex-Maidstone United manager as new first-team boss 

Dulwich Hamlet have appointed Hakan Hayrettin as the new men’s first-team manager.

Hayrettin won promotion with Maidstone United last season to the National League and was voted National League South Manager of the Year.

Paul Barnes departed Dulwich on Wednesday after ‘lengthy discussions about the current direction of the team’s fortunes and the longer-term projects at the club’.

Hamlet have gone 10 games in all competitions without a win and sit 19th in the National League South, just four points above the relegation zone.

Hayrettin featured for Barnet, Wycombe and Cambridge as a midfielder during his playing career. 

The 53-year-old has managed Grays Athletic, where he won the Isthmian League Division One North title in 2013. Hayrettin, who has also had two spells at Braintree Town, said, “I am excited to be at Dulwich Hamlet. 

“The project here is incredibly appealing. We have a committed and passionate fanbase, who have clear expectations for the club. First and foremost though, my immediate focus is this weekend.”

Chairman Ben Clasper added: “Hakan has great pedigree at this level, with a track record of success, and with the club in its current position and its aspirations for how we feel we should perform at this level, Hakan is best placed to deliver on both fronts.”
