Dulwich Hamlet not being outclassed in National League South

Gavin Rose reckons Dulwich Hamlet’s 2-2 draw at Chelmsford City on Monday night only confirms they are adjusting nicely to National League South level.

The South Londoners were 2-1 ahead at the break with their goals coming from Nyren Clunis and an Ashley Carew penalty.

But the hosts equalised early in the second half through Scott Fenwick.

Dulwich are 17th in the standings but Rose said: “Results can make you think we are not bedding in, but in terms of performances we are not being outclassed by anyone.

“There isn’t a big gulf. We just need a bit of detail at both ends of the pitch.

“Chelmsford are probably one of the best teams in the league and will be in the top three or four at the end. So it is a good point. We could easily have nicked it but they could probably claim the same.

“We just need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal and a bit more dogged in terms of our defending.”

Hamlet had the boost of Quade Taylor making a return from injury in Saturday’s 1-0 reverse to Concord Rangers but are missing Nathan Green, Michael Chambers and Taneshe Abraham.

“We always seem every season to get injuries at the same time and in the same position,” said Rose. “It puts a strain on you.

“At the moment I’d say no in terms of more signings – we want to give everyone an opportunity as much as we can.

“We have got a good squad and feel we have players who can develop further.

“The injuries have not been great and if we do have to do something it might be in the defensive area. We are running thin at the moment.”

Dulwich are at Bath City tomorrow.

Bromley are still waiting for a first National League win of the campaign after a 1-0 defeat at Eastleigh on Tuesday night – Mark Yeates’ fifth-minute goal proving the difference.

Neil Smith’s side host second-placed Gateshead tomorrow.
