EFL confirm that “constructive” talks have taken place with ESI and proposed new Charlton Athletic owners

The EFL say they have held “constructive” talks with a representative from East Street Investments and the proposed new owners.

We revealed that a meeting had taken place on Wednesday.

But the EFL also made it clear that they have “again outlined” the requirements needed for the takeover to be ratified by the governing body.

The EFL had requested the parties get together as the ownership situation at Charlton Athletic continues to drag on.

The Addicks have been operating under a registration embargo since the start of January with ESI not completing the two tests – source and sufficiency of funds and approval of any new owners and directors.

An EFL spokesman said: “The EFL have met with Charlton Athletic, a representative of ESI and also the proposed new owners in order to progress and clarify some of the outstanding ownership issues affecting the club.

“The discussions were constructive, with all parties showing a willingness to move matters forward as the EFL again outlined the requirements that need to be met in order to satisfy EFL regulations.

“Further information is now awaited and it remains the responsibility of the club to meet these requirements.

“The EFL recognises that this is an unsettling time for all concerned, and will continue to liaise directly with supporter groups but patience is appreciated as we continue to work in the best interests of club.’

  • At least something is moving, but it needs to be dealt with as a matter of urgency. What I do not understand is the issues of sufficient funding etc, that time and again, the EFL are saying have not been produced. On the other hand, the Club keeps telling us that they have been forwarded to the EFL. Who do we believe ?? It is this that I find very worrying as there does not seem to be any clarity, or indeed, honesty involved. Just sell the club, lock, stock and barrel to someone who really cares and put it all under one roof, in other words, let Varney and Barclay become the new owners. Easy isn’t it ??
