Ex-Addicks ace a major transfer target for Premier League outfit Southampton

Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo is reportedly a target for Southampton.

The Athletic claim that the Saints are in talks with Rangers over a deal for the 25-year-old South Londoner.

Aribo has a £10million release clause in his Ibrox contract and the media outlet reports they will not accept a total package lower than that figure.

The Camberwell-born player joined Rangers in 2019 as a free agent, his final outing for the Addicks was their League One play-off final win over Sunderland at Wembley.

Aribo has scored 26 goals in 149 matches for the Glasgow club and won the league title and Scottish Cup in the 2020-21 campaign playing under Steven Gerrard.

He also opened the scoring for Rangers in their Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt in May, only for the Germans to eventually win 5-4 on penalties.

Aribo had been on the books of Staines Town before he signed for Charlton in 2015.
