Ex-Charlton defender strolled his way through Bromley contract talks

Andy Woodman has revealed he convinced Carl Jenkinson to extend his stay at Bromley during a walk around their Hayes Lane home.

The former Charlton, Arsenal and West Ham United player joined the Ravens on a free transfer in September and has made 13 appearances in all competitions.

Ex-England international Jenkinson was signed up until the end of this season but has penned a deal to take him into the 2025-26 season.

“It was the easiest discussion for a contract ever,” said Woodman.

“It was literally a walk from the top pitch to the bottom pitch and, by the time we got to the bottom one he had agreed to sign.

“Carl has been so open and honest about how much he has enjoyed his time here and how much he wants to play.

“Treating people properly, as I do and everyone else at the club does, and having a healthy, competitive, and honest working environment can only bring good things.

“We are all heading to the same result – of winning football matches.”

The Ravens secured their League Two status on Saturday in their very first EFL campaign after a 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley.

A brace from Michael Cheek – taking him to 21 League Two strikes for the season – and goals from Cameron Congreve and Ben Thompson gave the South Londoners all three points.

Bromley are 20 points clear of the drop zone with five games left to play, having been promoted to the EFL last season for the first time in their history.

“I think we can still make the play-offs,” said Woodman.

“I’m proud but, you know me, I’ll look back and maybe have one or two regrets about missed opportunities. But we want to keep pushing this club forward – that’s what I want to do.”
