Former Charlton Athletic youngster scores vital goal to aide Dulwich Hamlet’s survival scrap

Former Charlton youngster Johl Powell scored the only goal of the game as Dulwich Hamlet earned a crucial 1-0 win over Cheshunt on Good Friday.

The hosts started the afternoon in the National League bottom four and knew a defeat would leave them in even graver peril of the drop.

But Powell notched in the 57th minute as Dulwich moved up to 20 in the table, the first safe placing.

Quade Taylor made a vital goal-line clearance in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.

Powell fired home from the edge of the box after collecting a pass from Sanchez Ming.

George Porter went close to making it 2-0 as he connected sweetly with Danny Mills’ cross in the 75th minute. Danny Holland also headed over from close range after Mills nodded a Conor Lawless corner back across the face of goal.

Dulwich are at Hemel Hempstead Town on Monday.
