Former Charlton boss sacked by League Two side

Former Charlton boss Ben Garner has been sacked by League Two side Colchester United following their 2-1 defeat at home to Harrogate Town.

The ex-Crystal Palace and West Brom coach joined the U’s in March and won seven of his 28 games in charge.

Garner joined Colchester after Matt Bloomfield left to join League One side Wycombe Wanderers.

The 43-year-old has also had spells at Bristol Rovers and Swindon.

Colchester are 23rd in the League Two table and below Forest Green on goal difference.

The club posted a statement on Saturday night that read: “Colchester United have relieved Ben Garner of his duties as Head Coach with immediate effect.

“Board members will be discussing the plans to be put in place, for both the immediate period with games on Tuesday and Saturday, and further into the future.

“Colchester United would like to place on record its thanks to Ben for his time at the club.

“No further comment will be made at this time.”
