Former Charlton midfielder makes League One switch

Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Jordan Cousins has signed for League One side Cambridge United following his release from Wigan Athletic.

The 29-year-old came through Charlton’s academy and made 136 appearances for the South Londoners in all competitions.

He left for QPR in 2016 following the Addicks’ relegation from the Championship, penning a three-year deal at Loftus Road.

Greenwich-born Cousins featured 70 times for the Hoops before joining Stoke.

He was released by Wigan this summer and has signed a one-year deal with Cambridge, who finished 20th and one point above the relegation zone.

Cambridge boss Mark Bonner said. “Jordan is an excellent signing and brings with him bags of experience at Championship level and winning experience in League One. He reads the game superbly, is tactically wise, powerful and will help us greatly.

“I am really looking forward to working with him and seeing the benefit he can bring to the team. He is another along the line of additions we have made since January to give us strength, maturity and game understanding which will benefit us throughout the season.”
