Former Charlton striker helps fire Birmingham into the Championship

Former Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May clinched promotion with Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

The Blues made their instant return to the second tier with a 2-1 win over Peterbrough on Tuesday night sealed their spot in the top two, with Chris Davies’ side 17 points clear of third-placed Wycombe.

The 31-year-old was sold to Birmingham in the summer for a deal in the region of £775,000 with add-ons.

He has netted 15 goals in 39 League One appearances and also picked up eight assists.

May has spent the majority of the season fighting for the starting spot in the side with Jay Stansfiled, who signed from Fulham in the same window for a fee of more than £10million.

He scored the first in the 2-1 win at Petebrough and has five goal contributions in his last two games.
