Former Crystal Palace and Millwall player lands League Two managerial role
Ex-Crystal Palace and Millwall winger Mark Kennedy has been named head coach of League Two side Swindon Town.
Kennedy has been out of work since leaving Lincoln in October 2023, winning 18 of his 57 league games in charge of the League One side.
The now 48-year-old started his senior career off at Millwall as a 16-year-old before leaving in March 1995 to join Liverpool for an initial fee of £1.5million – a then British record for a teenager.
He also had spells with QPR and Wimbledon before moving to Wolves in 2001, where he spent five years and racked up more than 175 appearances.
Kennedy joined Palace in 2006 under Peter Taylor and made 48 appearances across two seasons, scoring once and picking up 11 assists.
The Republic of Ireland international also had spells at Ipswich and Manchester City.
Speaking to Swindon’s official website, Kennedy said: “Firstly, I’m really excited to be here at Swindon Town, and I’m very much looking forward to the project that is in place here.
“I also think it’s crucial we look forward now and plan for the future with the exciting plans here at this sleeping giant of a football club, which I’m confident we can all achieve if we’re all pulling in the same direction.
“Another key factor that I think is vital to us being successful together, is the connection we build between the club and the fanbase, that’s something that I’m committed to and I hope that I can continue to grow and make stronger whilst I’m here.”
