Former Millwall goalkeeper not retained by AFC Wimbledon

Former Millwall goalkeeper Ryan Sandford is back hunting for a new club after being released by AFC Wimbledon.

The 24-year-old joined the League Two club on a short-term deal.

But the Dons confirmed earlier this week that Sandford was no longer on their books.

“Everyone at the club thanks Ryan for his professionalism and help during this period and wishes him all the best for the future,” said Wimbledon in a post on social media platform X.

Sandford had talked earlier this month to the South London Press about hoping to stay on with the Dons and how much he was enjoying working under goalkeeping coach Ashley Bayes.

He said: “Bayzo is incredible. He got me up to speed and you’ll just keep getting better and better working under him. He’s one of the best, if not the best, I have worked with.

“He makes you feel good and is so enthusiastic. I have improved under him in this short space of time. You only have to look at the previous goalkeepers he has had and how well they have done – it’s a credit to him.

“I love the club. I hope my time here gets extended.”
