Frank Warren: We’re not going to accept WBA verdict on Dan Dubois appeal
Daniel Dubois’ promoter says that they will not just accept the WBA rejecting their appeal which was lodged after the South London boxer’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in August.
Dubois was stopped in the ninth round in Wroclaw, Poland by the unified heavyweight champion.
But the challenger, from Greenwich, had Usyk down in the fifth with the punch deemed low by referee Luis Pabon.
Pabon granted Usyk a period to recover from what Dubois, his coach Don Charles and Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren felt was a legal punch.
Warren is seeking the bout to be declared a no contest and a rematch ordered.
The WBA have stated there was not enough evidence to change the result.
“I’m disappointed with them not even considering what our complaint was,” Warren told Boxing Social. “What they came back with doesn’t even address it. We complained about the referee not giving specific instructions to both boxers and for what he did, regarding giving the amount of time he did, nearly four minutes, for Usyk to rest, even though he wanted to carry on himself, after a low blow that wasn’t even a low blow.
“We will appeal that (WBA decision). We will bash on with it and keep trying to do the right thing by our man.
“He (Dubois) has had his tonsils out, so he’s out of action until next year.”
