Fulham are two matches away from Wembley after EFL Cup win at Ipswich Town

Fulham are two matches away from a trip to Wembley after their 3-1 win at Ipswich Town on Wednesday put them into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

The Whites will head to Everton in a last-eight clash, the first time they have reached this stage of the competition since 2004.

Fulham boss Marco Silva was able to rest the likes of Joao Palhinha, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson as goals from Harry Wilson, Rodrigo Muniz and Tom Cairney saw off the Tractor Boys.

The west Londoners face Manchester United in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday.

Silva, who made eight changes to the team which drew 1-1 at Brighton on Sunday, said: “The main thing was we kept the same structure (at Ipswich). We were serious in our approach.”

Fulham have struggled to replace the goals of Aleksandar Mitrovic but Muniz, 22, staked a claim to start with his first goal for the club since January 2022.

“He is always a candidate and he had a very good pre-season,” said Silva.

“Unfortunately in the moment he was showing his quality, – even if last season was tough for him – he had a muscle injury and it stopped his development a little bit in pre-season.

“He came back and had a very good game against Tottenham in the first Carabao Cup match we have and he is taking his chances. So, he is always a candidate like the others, like Raul (Jimenez) and Carlos Vinicius.

“They are fighting for the position. We don’t have a number one, two or three. It is for me to decide for each game regarding the strategy and what I want from the game. It is up to them to show the quality they have and to show they are able to play.

“Rodrigo did really well. Let’s see what will be my decision for the next match.”
