‘I love the kid – I really do’ – Charlton boss Jones on Tyreece Campbell reaching first-team century milestone
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has talked about Tyreece Campbell recently reaching the milestone of 100 first-team matches for the football club.
The 21-year-old has scored four goals in 31 appearances for the Addicks in the current campaign.
Campbell has played 102 matches for Charlton with only Chuks Aneke (123) having featured more out of the current squad.
Jones, asked about the young attacker clocking up a century of games, told the South London Press: “In today’s game and age, it is one of the hardest things to get to. To make one appearance you have shown you have been a professional footballer – so that is hard. To make 10 then shows you have stayed around for a little bit. Fifty is over a season and 100, then you are starting to build a real career.
“I love the kid, I really do.
“He is maturing and he came back in the summer and looked more of a man. He looks more of a potent athlete and we are really working with him now, we are demanding different stuff from him.
“The boy is doing fantastically well. He is brave, diligent – every day he works hard – and he is a threat. We love him. We absolutely love him here.
“He is only going to get better. It is a wonderful milestone – 100 games for Charlton Athletic, this historic and wonderful club. And for the boy himself, to come through the academy, that is the fairytale. That is why we do the work we do and the club is so important – because he is not the only one who has come through the ranks and made a chunk of appearances.”
