‘I wouldn’t normally take that shot – I can’t talk you through my goal!’ – Millwall’s Tom Bradshaw’s reaction to excellent goal at Luton

Tom Bradshaw described Millwall’s 2-2 draw against Luton as “bittersweet” after the striker netted for the first time since returning from injury.

The 29-year-old has scored six goals in eight Championship games for the Lions either side of his three months on the sidelines with an MCL injury.

The opener for the South London club was Bradshaw’s 100th league goal in his career – and Benik Afobe joined him in that club when he netted the second, although that includes one at international level.

Bradshaw said: “It’s definitely bittersweet because we played really well [and didn’t win]. It felt during the game that we were in control and definitely a threat.

“When we took the lead that’s on us to see the game out then. We shouldn’t have conceded from a set-piece but the performance was really good and it keeps us in the mix with seven games to go.

“If we can keep performing well and cut out these little silly goals then there is no reason why we can’t be right up there.”

Bradshaw was asked about his lead up to his opener at Kenilworth Road.

“I can’t really talk you through it because on paper I shouldn’t have taken the shot,” he responded. “I saw it bounce off Jed [Wallace] and it sat up nicely, I didn’t really know how far out I was.

“As soon as I hit it, I saw the line and knew that’s in. I was more shocked than anyone else. Everyone was surprised myself included. It doesn’t happen very often that I score outside the box.

“I’m more of a six-yard tap in inside the box. I don’t expect to do that every week but it was nice. It was a great goal [the second one], Burkey has done really well down the left, great cut back and it’s a great finish from Benik.

“The bench was on the pitch [after the goal].”

Next up for Millwall is a home game against Swansea on Tuesday night.

“Our home form has been really good all year,” said Bradshaw. “We’ve got two home games in a row. We go into them confident, with the fans behind us at The Den. There’s no reason why we can’t get back-to-back wins.“
