Ice-hockey: Streatham Redskins no longer in control of title destiny

Streatham Redskins need Slough Jets to lose to Cardiff Fire this weekend to stand any chance of landing a fifth straight NIHL 1 South title, writes Christopher Beal.

The South Londoners wrap up their regulation season with a trip to Cardiff tomorrow before the visit of Solent Devils on Sunday (facing off at 6.45pm).

Streatham cruised to a 13-0 home win over MK Thunder last weekend.

Ziggy Beesley took just two minutes to get the first of his three goals on the night.

Kaleb Sheahan in the Thunder net held the Streatham offence at bay with a series of big saves before Ethan Lane extended Streatham’s lead.

Beesley had his treble shortly after 11 minutes were on the clock and JJ Pitchley also chipped in as the hosts led 5-0 going into the first break.

Sheahan continued to provide defiance but could not prevent Streatham continuing to cause damage with goals from Danny Ingoldsby (three) Harvey Stead, Brendan Baird, Aiden Doughty, Sam Walker and Damon Porter.

Streatham coach Ben Paynter was pleased to see his team back to winning ways after defeat to Invicta the previous weekend.

“We know what we were coming up against when we play MK Thunder, they struggle,” said Paynter.

“But tonight was all about making sure we stuck to our systems, did the right things and got back to winning ways.”
