‘I’m very stubborn’ – Marti Cifuentes provides assessment of QPR’s summer transfer business

Marti Cifuentes feels QPR very nearly carried out his ideal summer transfer window.
Rangers signed nine players following the loan arrival of Newcastle United’s Harrison Ashby on deadline day. Fourteen players left Loftus Road this summer.
Six of the new recruits featured in the 2-1 win at Luton Town on Friday as Cifuentes and his side picked up their first league win of the season.
When asked if he was fully satisfied with QPR’s transfer business, Cifuentes replied: “Almost. I’m very stubborn.
“I think we have got to a good point. I value that we have made a big shift.
“It is not easy with a big transition in where we are as a club, with a manager that came in the middle of last season, a CEO that came in the middle of last season. With lots of changes in the staff and the squad.
“Those things will take time. I’m convinced that we have signed some good players and now it is about being patient and being calm. My job is to make sure that the pieces start to work together as soon as possible.”
Having fallen behind to a Jimmy Dunne own goal in the first half at Luton, summer signing Nicolas Madsen drew Rangers level just before the hour mark after being moved into a new position on the left wing.
Michael Frey scored the winner minutes later, but Cifuentes revealed that midfielder Madsen was not fully satisfied with his contribution.
“Nico is a very good player. I put him at left winger to give him more time on the ball,” explained the QPR boss.
“It was difficult for him in the beginning, especially after the goal. We struggled with their pressure.
“I am happy for Nico. Hopefully, the goal will give him more confidence even though he has a big personality.
“His standards are very high and he was not happy after the game despite scoring. It shows what kind of player he is.”
