Johnnie Jackson confirms former Leicester and Aston Villa youngster on trial with AFC Wimbledon

Ex-Leicester defender Paul Appiah is on trial with AFC Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old featured for the Dons during their pre-season outing against Met Police on Wednesday evening.

He came on again in the 61st minute in their 5-2 defeat against Premier League side Brentford at Plough Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Dutch defender Appiah, who also had a spell with Aston Villa between 2018 to 2022, made 21 appearances on loan with Maidstone in the National League last season before being released by Leicester.

“It was another good test for him,” Dons boss Johnnie Jackson told the South London Press.

“I thought he did well during the week at Met Police.

“He’s come in with a real enthusiasm, desire to work hard and to try to prove himself to earn something.

“He’s had a good week with us – we will keep him around for next week.

“We will do some in-house stuff where we will get more minutes and a chance to look at him a bit more.

“We will see where we go with it.”
