Johnnie Jackson says deals unlikely before the weekend for Charlton – and praises impact of Mason Burstow at Crewe

Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson says he’s not expecting the club to do any transfer business before Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham.
The Addicks have lost each of their last three league games and are currently without top scorer Jayden Stockley who is missing with a hip complaint.
The South Londoners are hoping to add more bodies to their squad before the end of the January transfer window but have yet to do so – with Jackson saying it’s unlikely any deals will be completed before this weekend.
He explained: “It’s Wednesday night and I can’t see anything happening before the weekend. We’ve highlighted targets and we’re working on them. I think we need a little bit of help. A little bit of a freshen up could give us fresh impetus for the last push of the season. But no real updates yet.”
The Addicks manager was full of praise for 18-year-old striker Mason Burstow, who bagged his first ever league goal during Charlton’s 2-1 loss at Crewe on Tuesday evening.
Academy graduate Burstow had already notched in the FA Cup and EFL Trophy and started Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Premier League Norwich City at The Valley.
“Probably the one positive from the evening,” said Jackson of the youngster’s contribution.
“Brilliant that the young lad has come on and got his first league goal. You know he can do that. The boy can finish, he’s got good attitude and puts himself about. No hesitation in them moments to throw him on if you do need a goal.
“I considered starting him but felt from Sunday to Wednesday with the shift he put in against Norwich and the fact he was cramping up, it was probably too much of an ask to start him again, but he’s come and had an impact from the bench.”
