Lee Bowyer: I’m hopeful I can come to an agreement with Charlton Athletic

The prospects of Lee Bowyer staying as Charlton Athletic manager have been boosted – with what appears to finally be some movement in negotiations.

The Addicks managed to agree a week-long extension to the deadline for agreeing new terms with their boss but that is due to run out today.

But Bowyer has exclusively confirmed to the South London Press that things do seem to be moving in the right direction.

“All I wanted was to be treated fairly,” he said. “And now we have started negotiating.

“Hopefully we can come to an agreement.”

We revealed earlier this week that owner Roland Duchatelet had become more hands-on in the negotiations as the time left for a deal to be struck ebbed away.

Bowyer has been steadfast in his stance that he wanted to extend his contract with Charlton.

The Addicks had an option to extend his contract – negotiated during last season – but it required Bowyer’s acceptance to trigger it. Since then the Addicks won at Wembley at the end of May to end a three-year absence from the Championship.
