‘Marc could say’ – Oliver Glasner puts Guehi’s Crystal Palace future in his hands with Newcastle submitting four bids

Oliver Glasner says the final decision on Marc Guehi’s sale will be down to the defender – with Newcastle having four bids turned down by Crystal Palace.

Newcastle made a fourth bid on Friday of a fee in the region of £65million for the England international, which has been knocked back.

Chairman Steve Parish warned Newcastle during the week that they will have to pay “superstar money” to prise Guehi away from Selhurst Park.

The Eagles value Guehi at £70million.

Glasner said: “There will be an amount of money, like there is in sport, and then I have to agree and find the right replacement.

“That’s not the case at the moment.

“But do you know who is the most important one? Marc himself.

“Let’s say that Crystal Palace and Newcastle find an agreement. Marc could say: ‘I don’t care.’ I don’t care as well.”

Guehi made six appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side as England reached the final of the Euros.

Glasner added: “I stopped reading all the rumours because I would be speaking with my sporting director and my chairman every day and asking: ‘Is it true? Is it true? Is it true?’

“It’s the same with players who are written about coming to us – 80 per cent of them we have never spoken about them.

“I focus on the Brentford game and the group we have here – this is what I can influence.

“If it happens I believe someone will tell me – I hope early enough – and then we have to find a solution. Marc is the captain. Marc trained well. He hasn’t mentioned anything,

“Neither has the chairman or sporting director.”
