Marco Silva: Fulham not ruthless enough against Brentford – we had chances to win derby

Marco Silva felt his Fulham side had the chances to win today’s 0-0 draw at Brentford.

A Premier League fixture that was starved of quality was summed up by a poor miss by substitute Raul Jimenez, who lifted a glorious second half chance over the bar.

The result guarantees that the Whites will finish above today’s opponents.

Fulham had 15 attempts, more than double Brentford’s tally (seven), but only three of them were on target.

“It was a tough match, for both sides, as expected when it is a derby match,” said Fulham head coach Silva. “It was a tight game.

“The team that created more chances, even if they were not many, was Fulham Football Club. When you have the chances we did, you expect to win the football match. Unfortunately the only thing we can regret is the composure on the counter attack – so often we arrived in dangerous areas and we needed to be more clinical and ruthless there.

“We needed to be calm enough to decide better and create even more chances.

“We created enough to win the game. In some moments the simple thing was the last decision or finish to put the ball in the net – we missed that. These type of things can happen.

“Brentford had one chance in the first half when Willian lost the ball on the counter attack but, apart from that, nothing more. One ball from Lewis-Potter, after a big switch, but it was a good clearance from Issa.

“After that we kept them really quiet and controlled well a tough attacking line-up with the likes of Toney, Mbuemo. Wissa and Potter. It was a good game from our backline and our defensive organisation from all of our players.

“Even their offensive set-pieces, they prepare well, but we controlled them well because they are a really, really physical side.”
