Milllwall edging closer to transfer deals – but Lions chief admits it is a “waiting game”

Neil Harris reckons Millwall are edging closer to more signings – but is not putting a timescale on when those additions come through the door.

The transfer deadline has been brought forward to August 9 but EFL clubs can still do loans – with a view to making them permanent in January – until the end of that month.

The Lions are chasing Barnsley striker Tom Bradshaw but the 25-year-old, capped three times by Wales, went away with the League One outfit on a training camp in Hungary.

Lions chief Harris has declined to talk about individual players.

But he told the South London Press: “We are still pursuing transfer targets but we are being patient talking to clubs.

“We have bid for players but it is always a waiting game for clubs to come back to you. 

“You can be waiting for a club to find a replacement for a player before they let them go – they get held up by another move and that one is held up by another move.

“It is slow going at the moment but we are edging closer all the time.

“It is the same for everybody in the game. There are very few deals going through. Unfortunately you can only move with the market.

“In terms of a timescale on things, I’m certainly not going to do that. One moment you are close to bringing someone in and the next moment it has slowed down again.

“It is frustrating but the guys are working tirelessly behind the scenes to get some players in. The chairman has been incredibly supportive.

“It is important we get them in as quickly as possible – ideally by the start of the season. But the window is open until the end of August.

“I don’t even look at that date [August 9]. It is not relevant.”
