Millwall agreed double transfer deal with Derby County

Millwall have agreed deals for Derby duo Scott Malone and Mason Bennett – with the moves set to be concluded before the end of the week.

The Lions are set to take their former left-back Malone, 29, on a season-long loan.

And they will do a permanent switch for Bennett, 24. Millwall had a deal already in place with an agreed fee when he arrived on loan in January but they allowed that option to elapse. Instead it looks like they will have an agreement which is dependent on appearances made by the attacker.

Den boss Gary Rowett knows both players well and feels that Bennett can be a quality addition to their frontline options provided the former England U19 international can stay fit.

Rowett has often played a 5-2-3 formation since taking charge at the South London club and sees Malone’s pace and attacking threat going forward fitting perfectly in the left wing-back role.

The Lions played Murray Wallace and Shane Ferguson down that side but the former’s natural position is at centre-back. While Ferguson is a quality crosser of the ball he lacks the speed of Malone, who earned a Premier League move to Huddersfield Town off the back of an excellent campaign for Fulham when Slavisa Jokanovic was in charge.

Both Bennett and Malone are surplus to requirements at Derby.
