Millwall boss felt he was close to more than one transfer deadline day deal – and questions why players don’t want to play games
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Neil Harris has questioned the desire of some players after admitting Millwall missed out on more than one player before last week’s transfer deadline.
The final hours of the January window passed without major incident at the Championship side.
But Harris – when asked about deals almost coming to fruition – said:”We were very close. At the one stage where I thought one was done. In fact, I thought more than one was done.
“What I don’t understand is there have been a lot of players that decide to stay at clubs where they are clearly not going to play. I wanted to play and compete.
“It was difficult. You saw the lack of action. It’s not a bad thing that there was, it stopped the flurry of transfers – the least amount of money spent. And I’m pleased – the window is a shambles and needs to be changed, I’ve said that before.
“We saw a lot of clubs try and do business and couldn’t. We were probably just one of a dozen in the Championship who tried on deadline day and couldn’t.”
