Millwall boss Gary Rowett reveals his forward plans
Millwall manager Gary Rowett reckons Mason Bennett’s long-term future is as a central striker.
The 24-year-old played just behind Matt Smith in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Luton Town.
Bennett has also been used on the left wing by the Lions, particularly when he was on loan last season from Derby County.
Rowett was more than satisfied with the attacker’s performance in midweek.
“Mason was excellent. Long term for me, Mason’s future is as a central striker – whether that is a number 10 or a nine. I really believe that.
“What he’s got to do is add goals to those areas of his game. As a 10 on Tuesday night he had a bit of everything – he worked incredibly hard off the ball and on the ball he was first to everything.
“He was good turning out of position and spraying the ball out wide. There was a lovely combination with Lenny for his chance and also for Jed’s chance.
“People say about his pace and power – but what they don’t see is that he is a really, really good footballer. Technically he is very, very good. That’s one of the reasons I fought so hard to bring him in.
“I was really pleased with his performance. Playing that formation [on Tuesday] he can play in any of those front four positions. It’s nice flexibility for us.”
