Millwall boss not setting points target for Championship play-offs

Neil Harris is not setting a points target for Millwall to reach the play-offs – insisting they just take care of their own affairs.

Brentford and Ipswich Town both lost in midweek, the two clubs immediately below the Lions, while Sheffield United climbed to seventh with a 2-0 victory over struggling Burton Albion.

Asked if 74 or 75 points would be needed for Millwall to reach the Championship knockout, Harris replied: “I don’t know. We have just got to win the next game against Barnsley. What is happening at the moment is that the bottom seven or eight clubs can’t win a game. That naturally means that teams above are gaining points.

“There might be some weird and crazy results, but we just have to make sure we take care of business. If we aren’t winning games we are not going to be looking to progress up the table.”

Saturday’s opponents Barnsley are perched immediately above the relegation zone. They drew 1-1 at home to Norwich in midweek.

“At this level every team has got dangerous players,” said Harris. “They played extremely well for an hour against Norwich and in some ways were unlucky not to win the game. They have struggled for consistency but spent £750,000 to bring in Kieffer Moore in January. They have brought in Oliver McBurnie from Swansea, who is a fantastic player and in a rich vein of goalscoring form. They’ve got some real threats from midfield areas.

“We are definitely going to need to be at our best again and have got to ask questions of the opposition.”
