Millwall complete loan deal for Middlesbrough striker Coburn – who also attracted Hull, Stoke, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday

Millwall have signed Middlesbrough striker Josh Coburn on loan – with our paper the first to reveal the 21-year-old was a target for the South London club.

Preston, Hull City, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday were also all keen on the frontman.

Millwall had initially wanted to bring in Coburn on a permanent basis.

But any deal for Coburn moved to a loan one as the transfer window progressed.

He underwent his Lions medical this morning and has been signed in time to be involved against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

Coburn looks set to start the match as Tom Bradshaw picked up a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s EFL Cup loss to Leyton Orient. There is no option to buy in his Millwall switch – just a straight loan.

Millwall’s director of football Steve Gallen told the club’s website: “I’m really pleased to get Josh through the door.

“A lot of clubs wanted to bring him in over the summer; we’ve been really patient but also really persistent.

“He’s a targetman who holds the ball up, runs the channels well and is a good in the air, as well as being a strong boy. He has a very ceiling and I’m pleased he is now a Millwall player for the season.”
