Millwall defender’s astonishing playing run set to see him climb up this impressive appearance list

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Jake Cooper made his 128th consecutive league appearance for Millwall in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Luton Town – moving him joint seventh in their all-time list.

If the big centre-back starts Saturday’s home game against Barnsley at The Den he will move ahead of Tony Warner.

Next in Cooper’s sights is Brian Brown (133). After that comes three of the Lions’ former keepers – Alex Stepney (137), David Forde (141) and Bryan King (168).

Bermondsey-born centre-back Alan Dorney, who played more than 250 times for his local club, clocked up 174 league outings in a row.

Top of the pile is Millwall legend Barry Kitchener with 244. The former defender played 523 matches for the South Londoners between 1966 and 1982.

Cooper’s sequence is made even more impressive by the fact he has played every minute in the league over the course of his unbroken run.

The former Reading man has not missed a fixture since November 4, 2017
