Millwall hoping to clinch deal for Morecambe’s highly-rated winger

Millwall are looking to wrap up a deal for Morecambe’s teenage winger Adam Mayor.

The Liverpool-born attacker has scored three goals and collected five assists in 23 League Two matches.

Millwall are hoping to conclude the switch tomorrow.

The South London Press reported recently that the Championship outfit were hoping to land a prospect in this transfer window – with Mayor a primary target.

Mayor, under contract until 2025, has previously been on standby for England’s U19 and U20 squad.

He started on the books of Tranmere as a youngster and then had a spell with Preston before signing for the Shrimps in 2022.

Then Morecambe boss Derek Adams revealed in September that Mayor had drew attention from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

“We did have interest in him,” Adams told the Lancaster Guardian. “That was only natural with the amount of games he’s playing at his age and the potential he has.

“If you see the England squad, we’re talking about a huge pool of players to choose from. For him to be on the radar of England is fantastic.”

Millwall have made two signings in the January transfer window – both of them Premier League loans – with Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga and Burnley’s Michael Obafemi both arriving until the end of the Championship campaign.
