Millwall make first breakthrough of January transfer window – as they land Dutch enforcer Kieftenbeld

Millwall have confirmed the permanent signing of Maikel Kieftenbeld – with the Dutchman becoming Gary Rowett’s first addition of the January transfer window.

The Lions had made strengthening central midfield a priority in this window.

Kieftenbeld has signed an 18-month contract and joins on a free transfer.

And Millwall are working on getting more deals over the line before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

Kieftenbeld was due to be out of contract at Birmingham City at the end of June.

He has played 183 matches for the Blues and had started their last three Championship outings.

Kieftenbeld is the sixth addition made by Rowett in the 2020-21 campaign with the Lions chief seeing a deadline day swoop narrowly miss the deadline when he was Derby County boss.

Subject to clearance he will be available for tomorrow night’s home game against Watford. He has been given squad number 16.
