Millwall progressing Burnley striker deal….Michael Obafemi could complete loan switch tomorrow
Millwall have agreed a loan deal for Burnley striker Michael Obafemi.
The Lions want to add to their attacking options with Tom Bradshaw ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Obafemi is undergoing a medical and the move is progressing quickly – to the extent he should put pen to paper tomorrow provided things continue to proceed smoothly.
The 23-year-old, from Dublin, initially joined the Clarets on loan in January 2023 with his stay made permanent in the summer.
Obafemi scored five goals in 31 appearances for Burnley last season as they won the Championship title.
The 11-cap Republic of Ireland international has only had 18 minutes of Premier League football for Vincent Kompany’s side this season, coming on in the closing stages of a 3-1 loss at Arsenal and the 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United.
Since that December 23 fixture against the Blades he has not featured although was on the bench for matches against Fulham, Aston Villa and Everton.
Obafemi has also played for Swansea City and Southampton. He became the Saints’ second youngest debutant when he featured Tottenham in 2018 at the age of 17 and 199 days.
He would become Millwall’s second addition of the window after they completed the loan signing of Tottenham centre-back Japhet Tanganga at the end of last week.
Obafemi would be eligible to feature in Saturday’s league game against Preston North End at The Den.
