Millwall snap up Derby County defender – but boss Harris not happy at fan leaking picture of talks
Millwall boss Neil Harris has snapped up Jason Shackell on loan – then expressed his unhappiness that a picture was put online of him holding talks with the Derby County defender.
Centre-back Shackell, 34 goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Rochdale.
A Lions fan posted a picture on Twitter of Harris and head of recruitment Alex Aldridge sat in a lobby area holding talks with the former Burnley and Norwich City man on Tuesday.
“It doesn’t help the club and it doesn’t help me,” said Harris. “We’ve always been very private with our business during my time in charge. You alway run the risk meeting in a public place but I’m disappointed that a couple of Millwall fans have decided to post information like that on social media.”
Shackell has not made a Championship appearance for Derby this season but has recovered from a long-standing back injury. He is out of contract at the end of June.
“He’s got it all to play for because his future probably doesn’t look to be at Derby,” said Harris. “He’s coming in to show us his hunger, fitness levels and ability are there.
“He’s an engaging fella and his record speaks for itself with the games he has played and what he’s achieved in the Premier League as well.
“The challenge is to force his way into the team and make sure he puts himself in a position to earn a contract at Millwall or any other club in the summer.
“Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson have been absolutely fantastic for me – as good as any centre-half pairing in the Championship.”
