Millwall v Barnsley: Lions switch to a back five as Pearce, Malone and Williams all come into side

BY DANIEL MARSH

Millwall have reverted to a back five for today’s Championship clash with Barnsley at the Den – with the Lions making three changes.

Captain Alex Pearce, Scott Malone and Shaun Williams come in for Murray Wallace, Ryan Woods and Matt Smith.

Mason Bennett will lead the Millwall front three flanked either side by Jed Wallace and Tuesday night’s starman Connor Mahoney.

Lions manager Gary Rowett told the South London Press earlier this week that he saw Bennett’s future at Millwall revolving around a more central role upfront.

The most notable absentee for the Lions is Rowett, who yesterday returned a positive test for Covid-19. He will also miss clashes with Preston and Huddersfield as assistant Adam Barrett steps in.

Millwall: Bialkowski; Romeo, Hutchinson, Cooper, Pearce, Malone; Williams, Leonard; Mahoney, Bennett, J.Wallace. Subs: Fielding, M.Wallace, Woods, Thompson, Bradshaw, Smith, Zahore.

Barnsley: Walton; J.Williams, Anderson, Helik, Sollbaeur, Brittain; Mowatt, James; Simoe, Woodrow, Friezer. Subs: Collins, Odour, Kane, Palmer, Chaplin, Thomas, Schmidt.
