Millwall will not furlough players as rules prevent anyone still working from being laid off

Millwall have decided against furloughing their 30-strong squad during lockdown.

But an estimated 70 other employees are having 80 per cent of their wages paid by the Government, up to a maximum £2,500 a month.
The club will continue to honour the remainder of their employees’ pay.
But the rules on who can and cannot be furloughed dictate that anyone still taking instructions from their employer on work-related matters cannot be laid off – so the players cannot be, as they are on personal training programmes.
The money saved will keep the club ticking over until crowds can come back to The Den.
Three League One clubs, including Sunderland, have already furloughed their squads
