Millwall will sign centre-back in summer transfer window
Millwall will sign a centre-back in this summer’s transfer window – allowing Ryan Leonard to play further forward.
The Lions have agreed a contract extension with Alex Pearce, 32, but his game time is set to be limited in the 2021-22 campaign.
And the South London Press has been told that another central defender will be brought in to bolster manager Gary Rowett’s options.
Leonard had a spell playing in a back three last season when injuries hit hard. And although he acquitted himself well in that role, the plan is for the former Southend United, Plymouth and Sheffield United man to be utilised in his more natural midfield position.
Millwall have already agreed two deals. Scott Malone has signed up on a permanent basis after a successful season-long loan from Derby County while goalkeeper George Long will join when his Hull City contract expires on July 1.
