Millwall v Cambridge United team line-ups: Seven changes for Lions as Romeo and Kieftenbeld not in squad
Millwall manager Gary Rowett has made seven changes for tonight’s EFL Cup tie at home to Cambridge United.
The Lions chief looks set to play a three-man central defence with Daniel Ballard, Jake Cooper, Murray Wallace and George Evans the only ones who featured in Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Cardiff to retain their starting places.
Mahlon Romeo and Maikel Kieftenbeld are not even on the bench and that leaves the South London club without a natural option to play at right wing-back with Danny McNamara and Ryan Leonard both injured. Billy Mitchell is expected to slot into that role.
Scott Malone and George Saville, who scored Millwall’s goals in their 2-1 win over Portsmouth in the previous round, are on an attacking bench that also includes Benik Afobe and Jed Wallace.
The Lions are also without Shaun Hutchinson (quad) and Mason Bennett (ankle).
Cambridge, who come into the tie off the back of a 3-0 win over Burton Albion at the weekend, make five changes.
Millwall: Long, Ballard, Cooper, Pearce, B Mitchell, M Wallace, Thompson, Evans, Mahoney, Bradshaw, Smith. Subs: Bialkowski, Malone, A Mitchell, Afobe, Bodvarsson, J Wallace, Saville.
Cambridge: Mitov, Williams, Iredale, Jones, Smith, Weir, Tracey, May, Masterson, Knobbs, Worman. Subs: Mannion, Digby, Brophy, O’Neil, Ironside, Lankester, Bennett.
