‘Nastier’ – Ainsworth delivers verdict as QPR fight back to claim point at West Brom
Gareth Ainsworth said QPR showed a “nastier” side to their game in Monday’s 2-2 draw at play-off chasing West Brom.
Brandon Thomas-Asante put the Baggies 1-0 after 10 minutes and their lead was swiftly doubled three minutes later by Semi Ajayi.
QPR pulled one back via Lyndon Dykes in the 22nd minute and equalised thanks to Chris Martin’s effort just after half-time.
The point at the Hawthorns ended QPR’s run of four straight defeats. The west Londoners moved two points clear of the relegation zone.
“Much better,” Ainsworth said of his side’s performance.
“It’s not the point, it’s the nature of the point and how we got the point.
“The way we came back and we probably should have nicked it at the end there.
“We were the better team in the second half by quite some distance.
“We went 1-0 down against Preston and we looked defeated. The difference today was that we went 2-0 down, and we didn’t.
“We looked stunned, but we had the belief that we could get back into the game.
“We have to make sure we repeat that week in, week out.
“Everyone was that little bit nastier – that little bit more committed and positive.
“I want the boys performing like absolute Championship footballers. Everything now, give it to me for four weeks.
“That will be enough. I’m really proud of the boys today. I want to talk about the endeavour they showed today.”
