Nathan Jones after Tyreece Campbell’s superb two-goal showing against Huddersfield: That’s what we tell him
Charlton boss Nathan Jones heaped praise on Tyreece Campbell after his brace during Saturday’s emphatic win over Huddersfield Town.
The attacker bagged his fourth and fifth League One goals of the campaign with two smart finishes – first making it 2-0 with a drilled strike on 17 minutes.
He then extended the lead even further shortly after half-time with a wonderfully placed curler into the bottom corner.
The winger-turned-striker has created 11 big chances for his teammates this season – just four shy of Rotherham’s Joe Powell who leads the way for that stat in the division.
But Campbell had admitted this week in an interview with the Evening Standard that there was still “room for improvement” in terms of his end-product – a feat he achieved with flying colours against the Terriers.
“I’m glad he’s saying that because that’s what we tell him,” said Jones.
“Tyreece is a young player learning his trade. We’ve had a year with him pretty much but he’s developing. There’s plenty more to come but he’s a joy to work with, every day he works hard, every day he comes in there’s smile on his face.
“He’s a threat and we love him. We’re very, very fortunate to have him at this football club as he’s come through a wonderful academy but there’s more to come.
“We had to give him the work and demand from him and keep him grounded and put him in the right areas. Then he has to respond and to be fair to the kid, he has responded.”
