Nigel Clough: Charlton Athletic boss Bowyer has got lucky against us twice this season

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough accused Charlton counterpart Lee Bowyer of getting lucky in both games against his side this season – and wants them to win League One promotion.

Lyle Taylor and Ben Reeves were on target for the Addicks last night as the hosts secured a 2-1 victory at The Valley.

Clough said: “”I’m about to go for a drink with Lee and talk about how lucky he is – for the second time against him.

“We’ve played very well against Charlton twice and got no points.

“I sincerely hope they go up, so we don’t have to suffer it again next season – if we’re still in this league.

“Performance-wise, to come here and dominate like we did, it’s the same old problem – we don’t do enough in the final third. It’s not been good enough all season.

“But our general play was exceptional tonight.

“They crossed 10 times more and they produce that ball [Lyle Taylor] – it’s a magnificent cross [for Reeves to head home]. Five or 10 seconds before that we were on the edge of Charlton’s box – we reverse one and lost it. They produce the cross and the header, we lose the game 2-1.”

Clough was asked where he rated Taylor – who took his goal tally to 17 in all competitions – in terms of the strikers in League One.

“I don’t really concentrate on other forwards,” said the Brewers chief. “He’s probably better than our forwards, if that helps.”
